Missing teeth are a common problem among adults. You may lose your teeth because of events like accidents, injury, trauma, tooth decay or infection, and others. They affect not only your appearance but also create difficulty chewing your food or speaking.
Dental implants have become a sought-after restoration for your missing teeth. Implants appear, feel, and function just like your natural teeth. They are the artificial tooth roots that we fuse into your jawbone. Once they integrate into your bone, they become an anchor for your artificial teeth (dental crowns).
Before starting the procedure, we carry out your dental examination to check your oral health. It includes taking your X-rays and performing a visual check-up. You are a candidate for implants if you have healthy teeth and sufficient jaw bone. But if your jawbone is not enough to support the implants, we may recommend a bone grafting surgery. You may opt for implants a few days after bone grafting.
For the placement of implants, we will make a small incision through your gum line into your jawbone. It is the place where the titanium stud will be inserted. After inserting implants, we will give your jawbone some time to heal. The healing time, also known as osseointegration, allows your implants to fuse well into your jawbone.
Once the implant is integrated, we move on to the next procedure of placing the abutment and artificial teeth. For this, we will take impressions of your teeth and send them to a laboratory. Meanwhile, we will offer you temporary crowns to wear. Finally, when your permanent crowns arrive, we will attach them to the implant.
